Hong Kong population rises 0.4 pct to over 7.4 million

HONG KONG - The population of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) rose 0.4 percent to about 7.41 million at the end of 2017 from a year earlier, official statistics showed on Tuesday.
There were 56,600 births and 46,600 deaths during the year, resulting in a natural population increase of 10,000, according to the Census and Statistics Department of the HKSAR government.
The Hong Kong population is measured on the definition of resident population, which comprises usual residents and mobile residents.
The number of usual residents was 7,182,600 while the number of mobile residents was 227,200 at the end of last year.
