Chen Long, Chen Yufei, He Bingjiao enter last eight at badminton worlds
BASEL, Switzerland -- Sixth seed He Bingjiao beat Chinese teammate Han Yue in straight sets to reach the women's singles quarterfinals of the Badminton World Championships here on Thursday.
The 22-year-old, the bronze medalist last year, won 21-18, 21-14 over the 14th seed Han.
She will next face either third seed Nozomi Okuhara of Japan or 10th seed Sung Ji-hyun of South Korea on Friday.
"It is a difficult match," He said. "We know each other very well and I know that she will never give up even if I am taking the lead."
Elsewhere, seventh-seeded Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand fought back from one set down to defeat Indonesia's Gregoria Mariska Tunjung 18-21, 23-21, 21-10.
Singapore's Yeo Jia Min, who upset top seed Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in the second round, reached the quarterfinals for the first time in her career with a victory over Vietnam's Thi Trang Vu 21-15, 14-21, 21-16.
The 19-year-old Yeo will next take on Intanon.
