Professor stripped of qualification following student's death
A professor at Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications has been deprived of her qualification to admit postgraduate students after one of her students died, according to a statement published by the university on Sunday.
The student's accidental death happened on the morning of Dec 26, the statement said. The professor, surnamed Zhang, has been punished due to misconduct discovered during the investigation into the student's death.
Further investigation is underway, the statement said.
Some netizens posted on China's popular question-and answer website Zhihu that the student committed suicide due to too much pressure from his faculty adviser.
The university said at the end of the statement that it will strictly monitor advisers' teaching ethics and provide a good environment for students.
