Highlights from the graduates' employment report

· The average monthly salary for college graduates reached 5,440 yuan ($778) last year, up 23.6 percent from 2015, while the average monthly salary for vocational college graduates was 4,295 yuan last year, an increase of 15.7 percent from 2015.
· College graduates who majored in computer sciences had the highest monthly salary last year (6,858 yuan), followed by students who majored in electronic information (6,145 yuan) and automation (5,899 yuan). For vocational college graduates, the highest paying jobs went to those who majored in railway transportation. Those grads earned a monthly salary of 5,109 yuan, following by computer science grads (4,883 yuan) and those who studied waterway transportation (4,763 yuan).
· The education sector was the industry that attracted most college graduates last year, with students working in the sector accounting for 15.9 percent of the total. Construction was favored by most vocational college graduates last year, accounting for 11.1 percent.
· Private enterprises attracted 53 percent of college graduates last year, followed by State-owned enterprises and government institutions, each with 20 percent. Sixty-eight percent of graduates from vocational colleges joined private enterprises last year, while 16 percent chose State-owned enterprises and 10 percent chose government institutions.
· Students majoring in medicine were most likely to work in jobs related to their major, with 92 percent of medical college students choosing to do so, and 86 percent of medical vocational college students doing likewise.
