Dedicated cop killed by apprehending suspect
Wu Lin was a police officer working in Shanxi province before being killed in the line of duty in April last year at the age of 27.
In 2021, Wu was dispatched to the police station in a township in Xinzhou, Shanxi province. He made his mobile phone number public, and kept the phone on around the clock so that people could reach him promptly in times of need.
Local people called Wu to help them deal with various emergencies and even mediate spats, which happened almost daily during his three years at the police station.
Undeterred by the heavy workload, Wu responded to the calls swiftly, and improved the sense of security and satisfaction of the local people significantly through concrete efforts.
On April 15 last year, Wu and his colleagues arrived at a village to question a suspicious man. When they found him, the man suddenly fled.
During the chase, the police officers identified themselves loudly and warned the man to stop running, but the man refused.
Suddenly, the man stopped and took out a knife, wielding it against the officers. The officers were able to take down the man, but in the process, Wu was stabbed in a carotid artery and the lung. He died in spite of all-out rescue efforts.
The suspicious man was later determined as a fugitive suspected of engaging in intentional injuries resulting in deaths. He is said to have been in the past sentenced to six years in prison for kidnapping.
He is now under criminal detention, and the case is under investigation.
After Wu's death, people in the precinct of the police station where Wu had worked visited the station and presented flowers to express their mourning.
