Partnerships for peace, progress and stability stressed

Editor's note: President Xi Jinping held a series of bilateral meetings on Saturday ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit 2025 in Tianjin. The following are the highlights of the talks.
President Xi Jinping called on Saturday for China and Myanmar to deepen strategic communication and step up efforts to build a community with a shared future.
Xi made the remarks during a meeting with Min Aung Hlaing, acting president of Myanmar.
Xi highlighted Myanmar's role as part of the eastern theater of the World Anti-Fascist War and its status as a key dialogue partner of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, saying that the pauk-phaw friendship (pauk-phaw means fraternal in the language of Myanmar) between China and Myanmar is deeply rooted in the people of both countries and remains ever-fresh over time.
Emphasizing the importance of advancing key projects within the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor, Xi called for joint efforts to combat cross-border crimes and maintain peace and stability along the China-Myanmar border. It is important to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals, institutions and projects in Myanmar, he said.
Min Aung Hlaing said that China is Myanmar's good neighbor, which has long supported the country's economic and social development, assisted in its post-disaster recovery and plays a constructive role in maintaining stability in northern Myanmar.
