China's inaugural National Science Popularization Month kicked off on Monday, in response to the public demand for high-quality science education.

Monday's major event was held at the China Science and Technology Museum and the National Communication Center for Science and Technology in Beijing.

During the event, visitors explored thematic exhibitions, participated in hands-on science innovation activities, and talked with scientists, science volunteers and young students.

The first Science Popularization Month, themed "science transforms lives, innovation secures the future", will explore an integrated science popularization model that combines science, culture, experience and consumption.

More than 100 thematic exhibitions and special activities will be held over the course of the month to foster a strong societal appreciation for science.

The newly amended Law on the Popularization of Science and Technology designates every September as National Science Popularization Month and stipulates that all citizens have the right to participate in science popularization activities.
