Narrow alley renovation recreates bustling atmosphere in Shenyang

The century-old Erduoyan hutong, or alleyway, in Shenyang's Fangcheng Cultural Tourism Zone has reopened after months of renovation, becoming a new internet-famous destination in Liaoning province.
Named for its narrowness "like an ear canal", this old alley is located on the bustling Zhongjie street. Though its entrance is narrow, it opens up into a distinct world once you get inside.
Over the past hundred years, Erduoyan Hutong has been a convenient lane where small vendors gathered, carrying the marketplace memories and urban changes of generations of Shenyang residents.
During renovation, the hutong preserved its authentic "old Shenyang flavor" while adding fresh cultural meaning. The appearance of old shops was meticulously restored, vividly recreating the bustling atmosphere of old Shenyang's Siping street.
From traditional Shenyang snacks to intangible cultural heritage skills and cultural products, the hutong offers everything. Regular training courses on intangible cultural heritage skills and craft salons will be held here, with veteran artisans invited to take on apprentices and pass on their skills. Modern technologies will also be introduced to display intangible cultural heritage works.
