Chinese vice-premier urges efforts to ensure bumper autumn grain harvest
BEIJING -- Chinese Vice-Premier Liu Guozhong on Monday said that all-out efforts should be made to ensure a bumper autumn grain harvest despite continued rains.
Liu, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks during a video conference on Monday, stressing the importance of ensuring the country meets its annual grain production targets.
Efforts should be made to coordinate the deployment of essential agricultural machinery and ensure timely drying of harvested grain to prevent spoilage, he said.
Multiple measures should be taken to guarantee smooth grain sales for farmers, he added.
Liu also noted that farmers should be supported with adequate supplies of seeds and fertilizers, and with guidance on key farming techniques, such as planting winter wheat in wet soil to ensure a timely and sufficient sowing process.
