Students to receive snow break in Altay prefecture
Altay prefecture in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region will grant its first-ever "snow break" for primary and secondary school students from Dec 1-5. Including the two adjacent weekends, more than 70,000 students will enjoy nine days off, local authorities announced on Monday.
Following Urumqi, Altay is the second prefecture-level region in Xinjiang to implement such a holiday, aligning with the nation's efforts to promote the ice-and-snow economy. As one of the regions with the most ice and snow resources in the country, Altay boasts four ski resorts, including the Jiangjun Mountain and Koktokay international ski resorts.
During the snow break, primary and secondary school students will have free access to the four local ski resorts, along with discounts on ski equipment rentals, dining, and coaching fees. Free introductory ski lessons will be available to help beginners get started. Preferential prices will also be offered for accommodation, transportation, and cultural activities.
