A new insurance service has been introduced to cover cancellation fees for passengers on the Xiamen-Kinmen ferry route, known as the "Mini Three Links". The initiative, announced as part of a broader package of measures benefiting Taiwan residents and businesses, aims to make cross-Strait travel more convenient and secure.
The ticket cancellation insurance was developed by administrative committee of the Xiamen Free Trade Zone in partnership with the Xiamen branch of People's Insurance Company of China (PICC) and China Ocean Shipping Agency Xiamen.
For a premium of five yuan ($0.7) per ticket, travelers can be reimbursed for 100 percent of the cancellation fee if they need to cancel their ferry booking due to covered reasons, such as accidental injury, sudden serious illness, natural disasters, or work-related changes.
The policy explicitly includes Taiwan compatriots as eligible insured persons, directly addressing a practical concern for those traveling to and from the Chinese mainland. It is designed to reduce the logistical hurdles and financial uncertainties associated with trip changes, thereby encouraging more exchanges.
This service is seen as a step toward strengthening the "Xiamen-Kinmen living circle" and fostering closer social and economic integration. The Xiamen Free Trade Zone has indicated plans to continue introducing innovative policies and services tailored to Taiwan residents and enterprises, supporting the broader goal of creating a high-quality demonstration zone for cross-Strait integration and development.
Furthermore, Taiwan residents purchasing tickets for the Xiamen-Kinmen ferry route through the "iHaitai" platform can receive a complimentary "cancellation insurance" voucher each month, valid until Sept 30, 2026.
