Qinghai-Xizang Railway sets passenger record during 14th FYP period
The Qinghai-Xizang Railway carried over 12.25 million passengers during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), marking a record high for the line, according to China Railway Qinghai-Xizang Group.
The 4,060-kilometer-and-growing network includes high-speed G-series services and conventional K-series. It has enhanced public convenience and served as a key driver of economic and social development in the region, the group said.
New stops at Tuotuohe, Budongquan, and Yanshiping, along with the Y-shaped mainline connecting Lhasa, Nyingchi, and Shigatse, have cut travel times significantly. Lhasa to Nyingchi now takes just over three hours instead of eight.
Freight services also expanded, moving 34.5 million metric tons of goods and introducing integrated logistics services that have sped up delivery times. The railway now plays a central role in regional mobility, economic growth, and logistics efficiency, according to the group.
