China remains largest online retail market
China has retained its spot as the world's largest online retail market for a 13th consecutive year, with its digital consumption exceeding 23.8 trillion yuan ($3.41 trillion). The figure was released at a national e-commerce work conference this week. The conference noted that China's e-commerce sector has achieved solid gains in high-quality development over the past five years, emerging as a new source of momentum to foster new quality productive forces and playing an important role in advancing the country's new development paradigm.
Yuan loans grow by 16.27 trillion yuan in '25
China's yuan-denominated loans rose by 16.27 trillion yuan ($2.33 trillion) last year, central bank data showed. Of this total, household loans increased by 441.7 billion yuan, while loans to enterprises and public institutions grew by 15.47 trillion yuan, according to the People's Bank of China. Outstanding yuan loans stood at 271.91 trillion yuan at the end of December 2025, up 6.4 percent year-on-year, the central bank said.
