'Spring Shanghai' pop-up brings city's creative energy to Milan streets
A striking art installation inspired by Shanghai appeared in central Milan on Thursday, marking the opening of the "Shanghai in My Mind · Spring Shanghai" pop-up event series during Milan Design Week.
Located in Largo Augusto, just steps from the Duomo di Milano, the green-and-white "newsstand" installation drew crowds of locals and tourists. Designed to evoke Shanghai city's flower, the white magnolia, the compact yet immersive space serves as a platform for exhibitions, performances and interactive experiences, showcasing the city's cultural vitality and global outlook.
Running for four days, the event combines city branding with the international promotion of Shanghai's cultural and commercial identity. It also features nearly 40 cultural IPs, including the China International Import Expo, Shanghai International Arts Festival, Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix, and landmarks such as the "Half Marathon Suzhou Creek" and Zhujiajiao ancient town.
