BEIJING - China's Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) investigated 25,000 bribery cases last year, including 18,000 "serious" cases, according to an official with the SPP.

More than 2,200 officials at or above the county level were involved in these cases, Hu Zejun, executive deputy procurator-general of the SPP, said in an interview on Friday.

The SPP has insisted on focusing on solving problems widely resented by the people and has strived to prevent and handle duty-related crimes in education, employment, social security and housing projects for low-income people, said Hu.

Hu said a mechanism has been established to accept people's complaints and appeals via webcam or video, making it more convenient for people to report to procuratorates at all levels.

A national online archive of individuals and companies guilty of bribery was established in February to better combat corruption.

Moreover, the SPP has thrown heavy punches at curbing crimes concerning jailhouse bullying and maltreatment in order to safeguard the legitimate rights of those in prison, Hu said.

A special crackdown on commercial bribery and corruption in construction projects will be further strengthened in the SPP's next move, said Hu.
