At the easternmost tip of the Shandong Peninsula, Weihai is aiming to become one of the most beautiful and livable cities in the country by developing a sustainable and eco-friendly environment, a senior local official said.

"Weihai is endowed with particularly favorable natural conditions and sound ecological environment," Zhang Hui, mayor of the city, said at the ongoing National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference meetings that opened in Beijing on March 3.

"Blue sky and clean sea have long been the most famous calling card for the city."
