Some 40 migrant workers were paid to vote for a particular candidate competing to design the Olympic Village, reports Beijing Times.

Five designs were displayed to the public at the polling and exhibition, which took place at Beijing International Sculpture Park on Sunday.

A reporter noticed some 40 people, all wearing white shirts, gatherer at the exit of the metro station at Yuquanlu.

After a man addressed them, the group marched out to the park and took part in the balloting.

A member of the group later told the reporter that they were all construction workers from Henan Province.

He said they had been "hired" by their boss to vote for one particular design.
