Sony's China subsidiary has temporarily suspended sales of six digital camera models after they failed to meet quality standards in one of the country's provinces, a Sony spokeswoman said Monday.
The six models already on sale in Japan and elsewhere received failing marks from the Zhejiang Province Industry and Commerce Bureau, said Sony spokeswoman Shoko Yanagisawa.
"We are communicating with the officials at the Industry and Commerce Bureau to settle this issueamicably," Yanagisawa said.
Sony decided to temporarily suspend shipment and sales of the six models from the company's "Cybershot" series to the entire Chinese market on December 16 until it can satisfy the provincial inspection standard, she said.
Sony did not yet know why the models had failed the quality inspections in only one province, Yanagisawa said.
The company has not had reports of quality problems with these particular models in the other markets where they are on sale, she said, nor has it previously experienced problems with passing quality inspections in China.
"We are checking and confirming as to why there is this difference in the results," Yanagisawa said.
