Customs to crack down on smuggling activities

According to China’s General Administration of Customs, they will severely crack down on smuggling activities with focuses on overseas waste, agricultural products, resource products, drug, and guns.

Customs enforcement will join hands with environmental protection departments to keep overseas waste from entering China, especially solid waste such as industrial waste, electronic waste, household garbage, and waste plastics.

Customs officers will combat agricultural product smuggling activities including rice, corn, sugar, and refrigerated red meat. And anti-smuggling work on major resource products includes supervision of coal and minerals to guarantee the smooth implementation of structural reform of the supply front.

Concerning gun and drug smuggling activities, customs officers will strengthen supervision of luggage, mail, and freight transport channels and cooperate with public security departments to break the entire criminal chain, including sales, transportation, and storage.

It has been reported that anti-smuggling operations obtained fruitful results in 2016. The customs report said 2,633 smuggling cases were placed on file for investigation and prosecution, an increase of 17 percent year-on-year. Among them, 1,446 are tax-related smuggling cases involving 48.79 billion yuan ($ 7.1 billion).
