From Jan 6-7, Xiyanghong Art Troupe, which was formed with members from the Leyu town Cultural Grid Volunteer Team, visited nursing homes in Leyu and Zhaofeng.

To welcome the upcoming Spring Festival, the art troupe performed a wide array of activities including musical performances and traditional Chinese opera.

Their passionate performance brought great pleasure to both staff and residents in the nursing homes.

“I’m so glad to watch the performance, they are close to life, some are similar to what I have seen in my hometown,” said an old man in the Leyu nursing home.

“The seniors can receive extra one-on-one attention as volunteers visit them and do different activities. We hope more volunteers can visit nursing homes where the elderly are living in a new environment where they have limited or no access to their family and friends,” said someone in charge of the Leyu nursing home.

“We feel rewarded seeing smiles on the seniors’ faces,” said one of the volunteers.
