Jang Sun Jae of South Korea broke the Asian Games record of men's 4km individual pursuit cycling in the qualifying stage here on Saturday.

"I am very happy and satisfied with setting an Asian Games new record, but it is not finished. Tomorrow is the accrual start for me," said Jang.

Jang Sun Jae clocked four minutes and 30.355 seconds to break the Games' record of 4:35.571, set by Vadim Kvavtchenko of Kazakhstan in Busan, South Korea in 2002.

"Tomorrow I will concentrate not on the record but to win the race. The Japanese athlete is my strong opponent because of the small time gap today," added Jang.

With Jang topped the table, four cyclists qualified for Sunday' s final. Japanese Taiji Nishtani clocked in 4;36.763 to be the second, followed by South Korean Hwang In Hyeok and Iran's Mehdi Sohrabi being third and fourth respectively.

"I knew him (Jang) four years ago, but I have never beaten him one time. He is too strong, " said Taiji Nishtani, who set his personal best on Saturday.

The men's individual pursuit finals will start at 13:45 on December 10.
