Over 380,000 car owners have applied to stop car usage during the Universiade period as of Sunday night, with 92 percent of those being private cars, as reported by Shenzhen Special Zone Daily.

The campaign was launched in mid-July, calling for the 1.85 million car owners in Shenzhen to drive their cars less often from Aug 4 - 24 in a bid to create a green environment for the Universiade.

The traffic congestion has been greatly relieved since the launch of the campaign. According to statistics, there has been a 30 percent decrease of congested roads and time, and a 20 percent reduction of traffic flow.
