Commemoration ceremony held for legendary Chinese ancestor
The 2023 commemoration ceremony for Fuxi, a legendary ancestor of the Chinese nation, was held on Thursday in Tianshui, Gansu province.
A joint ceremony was held at the same time in New Taipei City in Taiwan, marking the 10th year that the legendary figure has been commemorated simultaneously on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
Fuxi is regarded as the cultural ancestor of the Chinese nation. The annual ceremony commemorating Fuxi was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage by the State Council.
This year's ceremony consists of six agendas, including playing music, beating drums and ringing bells, reading sacrificial texts, performing bows, dancing in tribute, presenting flower baskets, and visiting the temple of Fuxi.
Tianshui is considered to be the ancestor's birthplace. The city is also hosting the 32nd Tianshui Fuxi cultural tourism festival featuring Fuxi culture as well as commerce and investment promotion.
