Former senior official indicted on bribery charges
Lan Tianli, former chairman of the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, has been indicted on bribery charges, China's top procuratorate said on Wednesday.
The Supreme People's Procuratorate said Lan was arrested on suspicion of bribery following an investigation by the National Commission of Supervision. The SPP designated the Changde People's Procuratorate in Hunan province to review and prosecute the case, which was recently filed with the Changde Intermediate People's Court.
Prosecutors said Lan was informed of his legal rights during the review and prosecution stage, questioned, and his defense counsel's opinions were heard.
According to the indictment, Lan allegedly took advantage of his various positions — including Party chief of Guangxi's Hechi, vice-chairman of the regional government, member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Committee, chairman of the regional committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and deputy Party chief and chairman of the regional government — to seek benefits for others.
He is accused of illegally accepting a particularly large amount of money and valuables in return and should be held criminally liable for bribery in accordance with the law, prosecutors said.
Lan, 63, is a native of Guangxi. He began working in 1980 and joined the CPC in 1985. He spent his career in Guangxi, holding a number of key leadership positions. He served as vice-chairman of the regional government in 2011, chairman of the regional committee of the CPPCC in 2018, and chairman of the regional government in 2021.
He was placed under investigation while in office in May 2015 and was expelled from the Party and dismissed from public office in December of the same year.
