A key suspect in a major cross-border cyber gambling case has been extradited from Thailand to China, China Central Television reported on Thursday.

Acting on orders from China's Ministry of Public Security and with support from Thai authorities, Tianjin police carried out the extradition on Wednesday. Further investigation is underway.

According to the report, from September 2022 to June 2023, the suspect surnamed Huang collaborated with others to establish a criminal syndicate in Cambodia. The group launched a football betting platform, lured recruits with promises of high profits to facilitate online gambling, and recruited agents and gamblers in China. The case involved more than 500 million yuan ($73 million).

In February, Thai authorities decided to extradite Huang to China.
