BEIJING -- Media professionals from across the Taiwan Strait gathered in Beijing on Tuesday to discuss media cooperation and development in the age of artificial intelligence (AI).

More than 100 media executives, journalism scholars and industry representatives attended the seventh edition of the cross-Strait media summit, where participants called for deeper collaboration and greater consensus to seize new opportunities brought by emerging technologies.

Addressing the main forum, Wu Xi, deputy head of the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said media on both sides of the Strait should serve as promoters of Chinese culture, guardians of peace and stability across the Strait, and facilitators of cross-Strait integrated development.

Chang Jung-kung, vice-chairman of the Chinese Kuomintang party, called on media professionals from both sides to contribute more to supporting the development of cross-Strait relations and exchanges, and to fulfill their social responsibilities in helping foster warmer ties across the Strait.

Taiwan media representatives, including Chou Hsi-wei, vice-chairman of Taiwan-based Want Want China, said that as AI technologies reshape the media landscape, it is only through closer cooperation and greater consensus that media on both sides can seize new opportunities and build a shared future.

During the two-day event, the participants would also visit Tencent's Beijing headquarters and the Zhongguancun Exhibition Center to gain a deeper understanding of the AI industry's development.
